2024 Annual Officers Meeting

2024 Annual Report of the President and Officers of the
Sigholtz-Capital Chapter, 173rd Airborne Brigade Association

Sigholtz Chapter Sky Soldiers, I am pleased to report that 2024 was a comeback
year for Member participation and revenue growth in the Chapter. Known also as
Chapter 1, we endeavor to build the foundation for sustainability as a regional
Chapter serving Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and West Virginia,
and to sustain the capacity to represent the 173 rd Airborne Brigade Association in
the Nation’s Capital as requested. In 2024 we
● for the first time in several years, filled all four officer positions, and with
longtime Chapter Members: Terry Modglin (Acting President), who served
previously as Chapter President for ten years; Mike Bargmann (Acting
Vice-President), who was a national CEO of Disabled Veterans of America
and longtime Chapter Member; George Farris (Secretary) who was one of
the founders of the Chapter and its first president in 1983; and Mark
Ludlow (Acting
● Treasurer), who has served as Chapter Treasurer several times previously
and as Chapter President.
● grew active Chapter Membership to 107. These are Members who have
communicated directly to reaffirm their membership. Approximately
another 100 previous Chapter Members are receiving our newsletter but
have not communicated directly with the Chapter.
● concluded 2024 with $4,669.05 in our checking account and no accounts
payable, but with a pledge to contribute $1,000 to the Sky Soldier
Foundation's Scholarship Fund.
● raised more than $1,000 in donations from Chapter Members Sky Soldiers
for general donations and for battle streamers for the colors.
● re-established standing with the Virginia Corporation Commission.
● published three newsletters totaling 24 pages of information and sent to
250 recipients.
● retained the Sigholtz Capital Chapter website.
● conducted our traditional observances of the Reading of the Names on
the first Saturday in May and the Walk to the Wall on Veterans Day.
● conducted a Summer Picnic at Marina Towers Condominium, drawing 25
Sky Soldiers and Wives.

● conducted a Holiday Luncheon on December 14, bringing together more
than 20 Sky Soldiers and wives and one daughter.
● gathered six Members at the Army Museum for a self-guided tour.
● supported the funerals, burials, or memorials of Sky Soldiers John T.
Foley, Pat Linehan, and Steven I. Haber.
● acquired all battle-streamers for the 173 rd colors.

The 2025 Program will, among other things,
● continue efforts to renew communication and active membership with
current and past Chapter members.
● resume the collection of dues as both a means of connection to Members
and raising revenue for Chapter and Association causes.
● include our traditional events of the Reading of the Names on the
first Saturday of May and the Walk to the Wall on Veterans Day.
● prioritize the recruitment of New Generation Sky Soldiers.
● publish four quarterly newsletters, including mailing paper copies to those
who do not have email.
● conduct at least one tour of a relevant military facility or institution.
● maintain and update the Chapter website.
Your Chapter is always open to new ideas and fresh energy. We take personal
responsibility to conduct activities for the good of the whole. Our success is
based on resolve and effort.
On behalf of your Officers,
Airborne All the Way,

Terry Modglin
Acting President
